To visit Yucatán, keep in mind the seasons of high temperatures, the risk of hurricanes and the summer rains. April and June are ideal times.

The best time to visit Yucatán is almost all year. Don’t worry if your trip to Quintana Roo, Campeche or Yucatán was postponed — the weather here is like magic.
Yucatán enjoys a warm tropical climate every month, with average temperatures between 20 °C and 30 °C.
The only thing to watch out for is hurricane season, which brings strong winds and rain.
The winter months have a dry season that runs from December to April — a good time to visit Yucatán. However, accommodation rates are significantly higher then.
From March to early April, the peninsula goes through spring, and Spring Break takes place. So if you’re after peace and quiet, it may not be the best time.

Visiting Yucatán in summer and autumn
July and August are very hot and quite humid. It’s the summer holidays, so people flock to the resorts.
Mid-April to mid-July and September to November are low seasons and much quieter — but it is the rainy season, and there may be occasional hurricanes, especially from June to October.
On the other hand, the best time to visit Yucatán and swim with whale sharks is from June to September, when they come to these waters to feed and mate.
If you want low prices, the best time to visit Yucatán is November and early December. The weather in the south is pleasant and holiday package prices are much more affordable than from mid-December to April.
During Christmas, New Year and Easter, rates are really high and vacation rentals can get very expensive.
6 must-do things if you go to Yucatán

Yucatán’s landscapes are wild and beautiful, and there is a lot to explore on foot, by bike or by boat. You can choose to walk around Mérida, cycle among the Cobá ruins or kayak in the Sian Ka’an wetlands.
1. Visit Chichén Itzá
The Maya civilisation dominated the Yucatán peninsula between AD 600 and 900. Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most popular archaeological site. You can also visit other ruins such as Cobá, Tulum or the pyramids of Ek Balam, beautifully preserved near the colonial city of Valladolid.

2. Snorkel or dive on the reefs
The reefs off Yucatán’s Caribbean coast are impressive and home to several protected wildlife areas. The open ocean offers chance encounters with sailfish, dolphins, whale sharks and giant manta rays. You can also take a refreshing dip in a cenote.
3. Try Yucatecan food
The Yucatán peninsula is famous for its seafood and its exquisite cuisine. Don’t miss the local flavours. Specialties include fried fish, cochinita pibil — a Maya dish of pork marinated in achiote and orange and baked wrapped in banana leaves — or the classic lime soup.

4. Visit colonial cities and Maya towns
Yucatán has colonial cities and Magical Towns scattered across the state: Izamal, Valladolid, Ticul, Muna and more. Better still, visit them during a festival or special celebration and become part of an event you’ll never forget — true festivals of colour, music and tradition.

5. Enjoy its beaches and incredible hotels
The Gulf of Mexico has beaches of all shapes and sizes. Progreso, very close to Mérida, has huge beaches to explore. Another option is Holbox, an island northwest of Cancún — a true paradise. The all-inclusive holidays on the Riviera Maya, with their wonderful hotels, are not to be missed.
6. Appreciate the biodiversity of Río Lagartos, much more than a beach
In this reserve, nature dominates. Mangroves and numerous species of flora and fauna inhabit this fabulous place.
