Tianguis Turístico 2020 in Mérida: 45+ countries and 3,600 exhibitors in Yucatán
Mérida hosts the Tianguis Turístico 2020, held from 22 to 25 March at the Siglo XXI Convention Centre, bringing together buyers and exhibitors from the tourism sector.

Mérida will host the Tianguis Turístico 2020, a major event bringing together buyers and exhibitors from the national and international tourism sector to promote tourism in Mexico.
Living in Mérida means culture and tourism. The Tianguis Turístico 2020 will be held in the capital of Yucatán. From 22 to 25 March, it will host the most influential people and companies at three important venues in the city, in a great fair celebrating tourism in Mexico.
According to the organisers, the Tianguis Turístico 2020 represents a major economic investment for Yucatán and Mexico, estimated at more than 500 million pesos.
The trade fair will feature representatives of all 32 states and up to 600 of the industry’s leading exhibitors across the 5 continents.
Besides a large exhibition area open to all, there will be business meetings and tourism-related conferences. An awards ceremony for tourism work is also scheduled.
The event, as every year, is completely free for the public and family-friendly. The main attraction will be the variety of destinations and national, international and Yucatecan products.
The Siglo XXI Convention Centre, the International Congress Centre and the Great Museum of the Maya World are this year’s venues in Yucatán.
What is the Tianguis Turístico México 2020?

“In 2014 Mexico recorded 21.6 million visitors to museums, historic monuments and archaeological sites.”
The Tianguis Turístico México is the most important trade fair in the tourism sector, celebrating and promoting domestic tourism.
Since 1975, exhibitors and buyers of Mexican tourism have met once a year at this business forum, which was always held in Acapulco — but since 2011 it has been itinerant, held in a different city each year.
Formerly called the International Fair of Hotels and Travel Agencies of Acapulco, it was born to link interests and build relationships that contribute to the growth and strengthening of the Mexican tourism industry.
We recommend: Mérida, a growing city.

Mérida, Yucatán will host the largest fair in Mexico’s tourism industry. For many years Acapulco was the main venue; but since 2020, new venues are agreed to keep promoting the country’s tourism.
Although every two years it returns to its birthplace, Acapulco, in 2020 the tianguis in Mérida will remain one of the main business forums contributing to the national and international economic impact the Mexican tourism sector needs.
Three venues for the tianguis in Mérida
Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Centre
The Siglo XXI will host the tianguis across its more than 20,000 square metres. It is in the north of the city, with a privileged location near the airport and the city centre.

“Last year, global tourist movement reached 1,135 million tourists, generating an economic impact of 1,245 billion dollars.”
Yucatán International Congress Centre
This will host the opening ceremony. Near the Paseo de Montejo, it was inaugurated in 2018 and hosted the World Peace Summit in Yucatán in 2019 — one of the most prestigious international event centres.
Great Museum of the Maya World
This cultural venue will host prestigious conferences on the sector. It shares grounds with the Siglo XXI Convention Centre — just a few steps to the impressive facilities of the Maya Museum, inspired by the ceiba tree.
Mérida at the 45th Tianguis Turístico
The choice of Yucatán as host of the Tianguis Turístico 2020 responds to several factors. It is one of the fastest-growing destinations in Mexico, with notable economic development.
Mérida is one of the safest cities in Mexico, with many advantages. It is a favourite destination for Mexicans and foreigners, and its closeness to archaeological ruins and beaches attracts thousands of tourists a year.
Locally, it is the most important capital in southeastern Mexico. Its strategic location and infrastructure make it a favourite for many foreigners and internal migrants who have decided to move here.
In tourism, Yucatán has shown great growth with strong national and international projection. Its modern infrastructure for congresses and conventions — the Yucatán International Congress Centre and the Siglo XXI Convention Centre — is a model for the region.
Tourism in Yucatán: a Mexican powerhouse
Living in Mérida is adventure and nature. With lush landscapes, Yucatán’s beauty is on show at every moment. With more than 3,000 cenotes and 5 protected nature reserves, it is an ideal destination for outdoor lovers. And its 340 kilometres of coast are the best excuse for beach fans.
Culture and history are also great attractions. There are 17 archaeological sites and magical towns such as Valladolid and Izamal.
Living in Mérida is colours, sounds and aromas. Its architectural heritage is one of the most important in Mexico, and the city has the country’s second-largest historic centre.

For lodging, there are more than 8,000 rooms available — top-tier hotels and prestigious chains, haciendas, boutique hotels and hostels — with options for every budget.
Land and air connectivity is guaranteed. Mérida International Airport and modern highways make it easy to travel to different parts of the world and the country.
Yucatecan cuisine is internationally recognised. Its combination of ingredients is remarkable: achiote, coriander, lime, chile, red onion, sour orange and habanero, to name a few.
What is expected of the tianguis in Yucatán?
In 2019, Mexico’s Tourism Secretary, Miguel Torruco, reported an achievement of 424 million pesos at the Tianguis Turístico 2019 in Acapulco. The forum closed with a record 47,378 business meetings, a 6% increase.
According to Diario de Yucatán, the president of the Association of Tourism Promotion Agencies (Aaprotuy), Luis Herrera Albertos, said the Tianguis Turístico 2020 was being prepared with more than 40 business suites and exhibition stand space. He also shared the confirmation of 1,400 registered domestic and foreign buyers, 3,600 exhibitors, and around 49,000 business meeting points across the Siglo XXI.
