7 dog breeds that can't stand Mérida's heat

The 7 dog breeds sensitive to Mérida’s heat

Pug

Is there anything more adorable than a pug? This breed is a favourite worldwide.

One of its main traits is a tendency to gain weight, which makes it hard to rest and breathe easily at any temperature.

Pugs are the breed most prone to heatstroke, and although they shouldn’t have problems with special care, try not to let your dog be exposed to high temperatures for long periods.

English Bulldog

The English Bulldog’s history dates to the 16th century, when the breed was first documented.

One of the stories that most defines these animals was their role in bull-baiting in the UK. Although the practice was banned in the 19th century, the Bulldog’s heritage was shaped by it.

They became companion animals, and the genetic changes gave them a smaller size and less agility, plus a greater tendency to suffer in temperatures above 30 °C.

Chow Chow

Small animals with a thick coat, Chow Chows are prone to suffering in temperatures like Mérida’s.

This breed needs special care: keep it away from very high temperatures and don’t completely shave its coat, as that could cause severe harm.

Shih Tzu

One of this breed’s defining traits is a thick coat and a reduced ability to control its breathing and adapt to high temperatures.
